My Introduction to the Kingdom

“But seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” (Mt. 6:33)

To seek means to diligently pursue, explore, understand, and experience. Earnest seeking requires a passionate desire to truly know God.

In Matthew 6:33, Jesus established two priorities for mankind: the Kingdom of God and His righteousness. The Kingdom is Heaven’s governing influence on earth, and righteousness is living in right alignment with the King.

The Kingdom of God is not merely a concept to study; it is a reality to enter. It requires surrender—laying down our assumptions and agendas to follow Jesus not only as Savior, but as King.

Once the Holy Spirit reveals the Kingdom to us, everything changes. We become responsible for stewarding what we have received and carrying its reality into the world around us.

Understanding the Kingdom is only the beginning. God calls us to live it. As we do, our lives become a visible demonstration of His reign, power, and presence on the earth.

For years, I preached the Gospel sincerely and passionately. I spoke of salvation, grace, and the cross—truths I still cherish deeply today. Yet somewhere along the journey, a hunger remained in me. I sensed there was more of God to know, more of His purpose to understand, and more of His life to experience.

In 1984, that hunger led me into a life-changing season.

At the time, I was serving as the right-hand assistant to evangelist Jimmy Swaggart, helping prepare sermon research, edit teaching materials, write ministry articles, and develop curriculum for the Bible College. It was an important and meaningful season of ministry, yet inwardly, I felt restless. Something deeper was calling me forward.

Then one day, the Lord spoke clearly to my heart: “I want you to preach the Kingdom of God and teach about the Lord Jesus Christ.”

His words startled me.

If I had already been preaching the Gospel, then what was missing?

That question launched me into a lifelong journey of seeking, studying, and experiencing the reality of the Kingdom of God—not merely as doctrine, but as life.

I began to realize that while I knew the King, I had not fully understood His Kingdom.

The Gospel was never meant to be only about reaching Heaven after we die. Jesus preached a Kingdom—a present reality in which the rule of God transforms lives, restores hearts, and brings Heaven’s influence to the earth.

This revelation changed everything for me.

My prayers deepened. My preaching changed. My understanding of discipleship shifted. Ministry was no longer simply about information, but transformation—living under the authority, wisdom, and government of the King.

As I sought the Lord about the Kingdom, the Spirit spoke another defining word to me:

“I will show you the ministry of Jesus.”

That word became a compass for my life.

The Lord began leading me beyond comfortable places and into ministry among the poor, the overlooked, and the hurting. One of those places was Haiti, where what began as a mission trip eventually became an eighteen-year assignment living as a missionary-evangelist.

There, in villages, churches, orphanages, and among people facing extraordinary hardship, I witnessed firsthand that the Gospel is more than a message to be believed—it is the power of God at work in every area of life.

The Kingdom is not merely about escaping Earth someday. It is about Heaven transforming life here and now.

Over the years, I came to understand that the Kingdom of God is not simply a theological subject to study. It is a reality to experience. It is learning to live under the rule of the King—to think differently, love differently, forgive differently, and walk in alignment with His nature and purpose.

That journey continues today.

And the deeper I go, the more convinced I become that Jesus was not calling us merely to survive life, but to live as sons and daughters of the King—bringing His wisdom, presence, and transforming power into the world around us.

Once we truly encounter the Kingdom, we cannot remain the same.

Frequently Asked Questions

Not exactly. Heaven is God’s dwelling place, but the Kingdom is His rule, reign, and influence. Jesus taught us to pray, “Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.”

Because the Kingdom was central to His mission. Jesus didn’t simply come to prepare us for Heaven one day; He came to restore us to a relationship with the King and reveal how Heaven’s life can transform us now.

To seek first the Kingdom means to place God’s reign, priorities, and ways above every other pursuit. It is a lifelong journey of alignment, trust, and transformation

Many sincere believers were taught primarily about going to Heaven after death, but Jesus preached extensively about living under God’s rule and authority here on earth.

To be born again is to receive new spiritual life through Jesus Christ. It is the beginning of a transformed life shaped by God’s Spirit, truth, and nature.

No. In fact, Jesus often confronted empty religion. The Kingdom is about relationship, transformation, surrender, and alignment with God’s ways.

Religion often centers on external performance and systems. The Kingdom begins with inward transformation and a restored relationship with God that changes how we live, think, love, and lead.

Start by seeking Jesus Himself. Read the Gospels slowly. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal not only what Jesus said, but how He lived and what He demonstrated.

The Kingdom is both present and future. While its fullness is yet to come, Jesus taught that the Kingdom had already come near and could be experienced now through life in Him.

No. The Kingdom is for every believer. God’s reign is meant to influence every area of life—our homes, relationships, work, purpose, decisions, and character.
